About Lyra
Lyra is a 4 month old, female husky/shepherd mix. I found her hanging around my house and after much searching, an owner never came forward. She looks like a white german shepherd, except for the fact that she has a mask around her face, a distant marking of the Siberian husky breed. She will be a large dog and she does shed a lot even though she has short hair. She has been seen by a vet and groomed.
If you are interested in adopting her, please fill out the application below. We will be reviewing applicants.
Personality
Lyra is very nervous but also very friendly. She takes a while to warm up to new people but never threatens to bite. She is also a very quiet dog, rarely barking. She is still a puppy so of course she is very playful, but she is not as hyper as is common with the husky breed. She is not destructive, but does need lots of training to be an inside dog. She is not potty trained, she needs to be taught not to jump, and she is also a little clumsy with objects around her. Right now she is crated when alone, but otherwise is happy to lay next to me when I am home. Positive enforcement is the best way to go about training her because she is scared very easily. It seems likely that she was starved at one point and is very food hungry. She should be separated during mealtimes from other dogs, at least until this issue is more under control. She is currently on Rachael Ray's Just 6.
An ideal home for her would be either as an only dog or with one other dog. She is easily overwhelmed and needs lots of one on one time. She does fine with other animals such as cats. She could also live in a home with children as long as they are taught to be gently and approach her slowly.
What does the adoption fee cover?
The adoption fee ($60) covers expenses for her time in foster care. This includes vet bills, food bills and grooming. She has been seen by a vet and has been given a parvo/distemper vaccine.
She will still need to be given a rabies vaccine and a booster for parvo/distemper which I can acquire at the adopter’s expense. If located in El Paso, I can also obtain a city license for you during her next vet visit. Transportation can be arranged if you are not located in El Paso, please message me for details to see what we can work out.
****In order to adopt you must provide a prepaid vet recite showing the date that you will have her spayed. Or we can have her spayed and adoption fee be would $110. This would include spay, as well as yearly vaccines.
