As the weather is getting colder, our dogs could be more prone to having coughs and other respiratory problems. I like to always try natural remedies with my pets before giving them medication. So here is how I would treat a cough.
I always keep Marshmallow tea on hand for any respiratory problem. It not only works for humans but for dogs as well. Prepare warm water and allow the Marshmallow leaves to set in the water for about 15 min. Then remove the leaves and let the dog drink the water. This will relieve their cough and clear out the lungs.
If they cough is especially bad, add a big spoonful of honey to the marshmallow tea. Honey is an antibiotic that can be used to treat bacteria, but honey can be wonderful for coughs because it soothes the throat.
If your dog is not too keen on drinking this, add a low sodium chick broth to it. It is always better to make your own chicken broth by boiling chicken at home. This usually does the trick and the dogs are happy to lap it up.
